PERSONALITY:
Alanna is a firecracker. A short firecracker. She's stubborn as a mule and about as likely to betray a friend as a snowball is to survive in Death Valley. While she initially believes she has to fit in, she is taught over the course of a few years that she is liked because she's different, rather than because she blends in. Even after six years with the boys at the palace, she doesn't believe they love her as a friend.

Since Alanna had to disguise herself as a boy in order to achieve her dream of knighthood, she has to be careful about her identity. She binds her breasts to her chest to keep the "jiggle" to a minimum, and breaks the palace rules to leave and see a city healer for her monthly cycles.

Throughout her Page and Squire training, Alanna is punished for both doing the right thing (defending her noble's honor) and the wrong things (pulling pranks, escaping out of the palace) and takes this without a complaint, as she's taught to do.

When a bigger boy, Ralon of Malven, picks on her as the smallest page, she initially loses (which grinds on her pride) but vows to take his bullying and rub his nose in defeat. Her stubbornness wins out and after months of hard work, Alanna bests him a wrestling match. Unable to cope with the humiliation of a much smaller enemy besting him, Ralon leaves for his home in disgrace.

Her temper becomes legendary in her later years, though she can more often than not, keep her cool in a fighting match, especially as it is a habit of hers to keep silent during a match. Alanna isn't tactful in the least, often fighting down the desire to prove her intelligence. She chafes at the stereotype that women are weak and silly, fearing that if the men at the palace discovered her secret, that's all they would think of her.

She has three big fears: The Ordeal of Knighthood (said to prove whether the knight-to-be was worthy of his shield. New knights are often tormented by dreams of what they saw during the Ordeal), Love (Alanna claims her father lost something to her mother and refuses to give up a part of herself she'll never get back), and Roger of Conte (a powerful sorcerer she suspects was behind a deadly disease, which nearly killed her prince/best friend and the second in line for the throne after the prince).

To Alanna, the codes of chivalry and rules of nobility are more important than near anything. Though she breaks the palace's rules occasionally, she takes honor, and honorable battle, very seriously. Despite nearly being killed when a full-fledged knight (she was a squire at the time) broke the rules of honorable battle, Alanna refused to kill him, she merely ensured the whole audience knew she had taken the honorable route and not killed the other knight, though no one would have blamed her if she had.

This journal is used for edensphere and the icons are that of the Hitachiin twins from Ouran Host Club, but are used to represent Tamora Pierce's Alanna the Lionness from The Song of the Lionness Quartet as depicted above.
